SoTL is a research field in which faculty investigate and discuss a teaching and learning issue. Their inquiries are shared for review and dissemination. SoTL work often involves recommendations for actions that change what is done in the classroom.
Centre faculty are encouraged to join conversations about their teaching and consider developing SoTL projects.
Boyer’s Scholarship Reconsidered (1990) called for a broader definition of the work of faculty members to include the scholarships of discovery, integration, application, and teaching. In Scholarship Reconsidered, Boyer (1990) believed that “the time [had] come to move beyond the tired old ‘teaching versus research’ debate and give the familiar and honorable term ‘scholarship’ a broader, more capacious meaning, one that brings legitimacy to the full scope of academic work
” (p. 16).
