1. Divide the class into teams of three to five people.  These are called "jigsaw groups."

2. Appoint one student from each jigsaw group as the leader.

3. Divide the lesson into three to five segments.

4. Assign each student in each jigsaw group to learn one segment.

5. Give students time to read over their segment individually.

6. Form temporary "expert groups" by having one student from each team join the other students assigned the same segment.  Give students in these "expert groups" time to discuss the main points of their segment and to rehearse the presentation or teaching of the segment to their original team/jigsaw group.

7. Bring students back to their jigsaw group.

8. Each student presents and teaches their segment to the other members of their team.

After each student has finished teaching, all segments of the content have been reassembled, and everyone on the team knows something important about every segment.
