Adobe- Adobe has a host of software programs including: Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash and Dreamweaver.
There are many programs out there that will let you record audio. However, depending on what computer platform you are using and what you are trying to do, will determine what program would work best for your needs.
Audacity is a free cross-platform program that allows users to create and edit live audio recordings and edit existing sound files into digital files for the computer or to burn it on a CD.
Working with Audacity and the CTL Voice Recorders
If you are using a CTL voice recorder, the file will be a .wma file and Audacity will not directly
open it unless you download and install the FFmpeg library to your computer.

It is also recommended that you install the LAME plugin for audacity which will allow you export
the audio file as an .mp3.
VLC Media Player
VLC Media Player allows you to play .wma format files on a Mac or PC computer. If you are using a CTL digital voice recorder to record audio and you have a MAC computer, you need to download and install the player on your Mac first before you can play the audio file. You can then use VLC media player to convert the file to an .mp4 format which can be playable on both Mac's and PC's.
Garageband is a MAC specific software program and that students can use to create an audio recording. For more information on using Garageband, check out Apple's support documentation.
One of the Mac computers in the CTL lab has a the audio software Logic Pro. Logic Pro provides software instruments, audio effects and recording facilities for music synthesis. It also supports Apple Loops – royalty free professionally recorded instrument loops. Logic Pro can handle multichannel surround sound. It can handle up to 255 audio tracks, depending on system performance (CPU and hard disk throughput and seek time). Logic Pro can work with MIDI keyboards and control surfaces for input and processing, and for MIDI output. It features real-time scoring in musical notation, supporting guitar tablature, chord abbreviations and drum notation.
Centre College joined Google Apps for Education. This partnership allows an individual to login with their Centre username and password thru a web-browser and access any of the Google programs including: documents, spreadsheets, presentations, sites, calendar and YouTube. These applications are designed for classrooms and programs to work in a collaborative environment and easily share files.
Mac Software Programs
iLife software suite consists of iMovie, iPhoto and Garageband. Older versions may include iDvd and iWeb, although these programs no longer exists on newer Mac operating systems.
Creating a Podcast in Garageband
One project-based assignment a faculty member can assign to their students is creating podcasts. Podcasts allow individuals to subscribe to audio/video content over the Internet. At Centre, GarageBand is the supported program students can use to create their own podcasts. GarageBand, part of the iLife Suite, is an Apple software provided on our lab machines. Students can pull in images, videos, add narration, audio clips and add chapter titles to their podcast. When they are finished, they can export their podcast to iTunes and even upload it to Centre’s iTunes University.
Microsoft is the standard office suite for the entire campus. These programs include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, One Note and Access. Faculty and staff use Outlook for email while students use email within Office 365.
Individual Office Software Programs
Why won’t Excel let me view two documents at the same time?
Unlike Word, Excel doesn’t automatically open two different excel files in the same window. This can be frustrating, especially if you are trying to compare data.
Here is a trick to get your excel files to open in two different windows:
Office 365 is Microsoft's cloud-based version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and One Note and you get 1TB of cloud storage (aka: One Drive). You can use the on-line version of Office or you can download and install the software on up to 5 computers and 5 tablets. It's free for Centre faculty, staff and students.
To access Office 365, log into CentreNet and click the Office 365 icon located on the CentreNet LaunchPad. You will be prompted to login using your Centre credentials.
Turnitin.com is an on-line resource that checks student papers against a database of Internet publications and (for duplication) previously submitted student papers. You may either type a portion of a paper directly into turnitin.com’s web site, or you may have your students submit the paper electronically to the web-based system. For each paper, Turnitin.com returns an originality report that identifies, if necessary, passages that may have been plagiarized.

Creating a Slide Show Presentation with Audio Narration
If you want to create a slideshow and add your own audio narration, the Center for Teaching and Learning has created a list of resources to help you get started.
There are several software programs that you can use to create your presentation.
iMovie is a Mac-based software program. It allows you to bring in photos and record audio narration to accompany your images. You can also add transitions and captions or titles between each photo. iMovie will allow you to export the finished product as an .mp4 video file format.
PowerPoint is the traditional software program that allows you to create a photo slideshow. With this program you can add photos, transitions, titles, effects and sound. However, if you are embedding audio on a slide, you should be cautious how you save your presentation, as PowerPoint can embed audio in several ways.
This is why it is important to understand how your audio is being embedded in PowerPoint and to test your presentation on a different computer before you turn the project in.
Exporting your presentation:
The PC computers on campus have Office 2013 installed. This latest version of Microsoft Office 2013 allows you to export your PowerPoint slideshow as an .mp4 file. Having this option, you will be able to easily preserve the audio and any effects (such as timing, transitions, etc.) that you have on each slide.
In PowerPoint 2013:
1. Go to the File menu < Choose Save As
2. In the “Save as type” dropdown list < Choose MPEG-4 Video
3. Click the Save button
If you are on a Mac computer, you will not be able to export your presentation as an .mp4 video. You need to open your presentation on a PC computer and export it using the steps above.

Technology Equipment Availability
The Center for Teaching and Learning has a variety of technology equipment available for checkout free of charge. Some of these technologies include microphones/headphones, laptops, tablets, webcams and cameras. Since we have a limited number of each item, we recommend you check out the online reservation system to see what's available. Just login with your Centre username and password. Use the blue arrow to choose your equipment category.
Equipment can be checked out and returned during our normal business hours 8am - 12pm and 1pm - 4:30pm Mon-Fri.

Doceri is a software application that allows you to create, share, present and control your documents through an iPad.
The iPad app is an interactive whiteboard that allows you to view your presentation, annotate over it and even record a video of it. The desktop application allows you to control applications on the classroom computer all through your iPad.
